About Us

Mysuru, the Erstwhile Princely State and the current Heritage City and the Cultural Capital of Karnataka can proudly boast of a Jewel on its glittering Crown in the field of Table Tennis. Very few remember that, Krishna Nagaraj, the Legendary Defence Player created history by entering Quarter Finals of World Table Tennis Championship held at Tokyo in 1956. After the Game Score stood at 2-2, Nagaraj went down in the final game 20-22 against Akio Nohira of Japan. The impressive Game Score stood at: 15-21, 24-22, 16-21, 21-14, 22-20. Amazing indeed! Most of the Players of that time had a very hard time getting through his Defence. Since 1956, no other Indian has reached the last Sixteen leave alone last Eight, in any of the World TT Championships!

Taking a cue from Krishna Nagaraj’s prodigious achievement, some of his fans thought of popularising Table Tennis at Mysuru and thus was born Harsha Table Tennis Academy in the year 1993. After moving out from one venue to other several times, now it is housed in a spacious Hall, near appollo hospital Kuvempunagara. Over the years, the Academy has earned a name for itself by producing a number of State and National Level Players both in Boys and Girls Category. The Academy has an experienced Coach to handhold the youngsters.

The Harsha TT Academy has attracted Veterans to its fold like a Magnet. Nearly 25-30 Veterans in the Age Group 45-75, enjoy their morning session form 7.30 to 9.30, playing to keep themselves physically and mentally fit, as also to develop among themselves a competitive spirit. Such will be the intensity of the involvement of Veterans in the Game, that, the TT Hall reverberates with ‘Ho-Haa-Hea-Aado-Aiyyo’, decibels reaching its Zenith at times. The Veteran Players come from different strata of Society (like Doctors, Engineers, Bureaucrats, Bankers, Business Men and Software Engineers). The Evening Session is mostly attended by Kids and Youngsters who are guided by the Coach in a professional way, which enables them to take part in State Level Ranking Tournaments.

At weekends, Veteran Players from other Clubs visit the Academy to play friendly Matches or just to practice with Academy Players. Among them, noteworthy being Sri K V Krishna Murthy aka KVK, a contemporary of Sri Krishna Nagaraj, who has won many laurels over the years in All India Veteran’s Tournaments and State Ranking Tournaments.

Sri Raghotam came, saw and conquered! He came to HTTA one day in 2022, saw us practicing, and conquered all of us with his love and affection. A retired Software Engineer from US and settled in Mysuru, was an active TT Player in his heydays, having played active TT with giants of those days. He was an attacking Player with good service and aggressive Top Spin Drives. Full of energy and stamina he was always in the Arena playing either Singles or Doubles. A fitness freak, he used to go for jogging several rounds, around Kukkarahalli Lake every evening. Apart from this, he was an avid reader, hiker, and traveller and was able to speak on any subject with authority and party man to the hilt! But alas, all these came to an end in the very place he liked most to go round for jogging. On that fateful day of 15th Apr 2023, Sri Raghotam went for usual jogging around the Lake but never ever to complete it. He collapsed in the middle with massive Heart Attack. All efforts to revive him went in vain and we the HTTA family lost a wonderful, active, energetic and humane personality for ever. We bow our Head in full respect to the dearest departed soul.

Our Aim & Mission

To work towards upliftment of Table Tennis Game in the city of Mysore.

And to concentrate and motivate young boys and girls to come up in District / State level/All India level TT Tournaments.

Harsha TT Academy is doing a yeoman service in promoting Table Tennis among Veterans and School Children in Mysuru. A good number of Children have enrolled themselves and playing Table Tennis under the guidance of Sri Umesh Urs. Now, it's time for more number of parents to enrol their Children for Table Tennis Training in the Academy to see that their wards get good training and represent their School/College in TT Tournaments and also to keep themselves Physically & Mentally Fit. Sri. Umesh Urs is a Senior TT player and has taken up the responsibility of coaching young Children. Children coached by Urs are playing in the District level and a few of them in the State-Level Tournaments. I am happy to know that Harsha TT Academy has recently launched their Website, which gives all the details of the Academy for the interested People. I wish the Harsha Table Tennis Academy all the best in their efforts to promote Table Tennis among Veterans & School Children.

Harsha Table Tennis Academy located near appollo hospital has a pleasant ambience, sufficient space for 4-5 tables to be placed for practice/matches. Quite sufficient space is also available for reasonable number of spectators to sit and watch. Apart from that, the morning batch (mostly Masters) is handled, managed and guided by the ever enthusiastic Prasanna Kumar, the 70+ years Champion and the Evening batch coached by the renowned coach in Karnataka, Mr.Umesh Urs. In one sentence I can confidently announce that this is an Academy which can train both Young and Masters alike and help the cause of Development and Promotion of Table Tennis in Mysuru/Mysuru District.
